Title: Child Abuse Prevention Month
Start Date: 2016-04-01
End Date: 2016-04-30
Child abuse is the physical maltreatment or sexual molestation of a child. Some national statistics:
- A report of child abuse is made every 10 seconds
- Of the children who experienced maltreatment or abuse in 2013, nearly 80% suffered neglect; 18% suffered physical abuse; and 9% suffered sexual abuse
- Just under 80% of child abuse deaths in 2013 involved at least one parent as abuser
We can all do our part to prevent child abuse in our community. Education, proper care and creating safe spaces for children to learn, grow and play are ways to encourage healthy growth and relationships in children’s lives.
April is Child Abuse Prevention Month. Navy blue is the theme color to show support for victims and survivors and raise awareness on prevention and education efforts. Free navy blue ribbons are available at our Crisis Center and at Closet To Closet during April.
