Volunteer Victim Advocate Application
Volunteer Victim Advocate training is held approximately every 18 months. The last training was held in September 2013.
In order to be certified, volunteers must:
- be 18 years of age or older
- commit to complete the six-week victim advocate training
- commit to a one-year internship as an advocate-in-training
Volunteer advocates are trained on many issues, including domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse, legal aspects, crisis intervention, medical aspects and community resources. Practical training techniques for offering support to victims in crisis are also covered. Workshops with various professionals from local service agencies, including the V.I. Police Department, Legal Services of the Virgin Islands and the V.I. Department of Human Services are also conducted.
Advocates must drive their own vehicles for on-duty periods. Please contact WCSC’s main office at (340)773-9272, if you have any questions or require additional information.
