Juneteenth

WCSC’s sites will be closed on Monday, June 20, 2022, in observance of Juneteenth this year.

It goes by many names. Whether you call it Emancipation Day, Freedom Day or the country’s second Independence Day, Juneteenth is one of the most important anniversaries in our nation’s history.

–Sharon Pruitt Young, Slavery Didn’t End On Juneteenth. Here’s What You Should Know About This Important Day.

As the nation recognizes the newest federal holiday, we honor the sacrifices made by enslaved peoples all over the world, to create legacies and survive.

We call on our local and federal legislators to focus on bringing sweeping reform to end the systems that keep oppression and the trauma it perpetuates alive. Freedom means equality and equity for all people. Human rights are human rights!
